In Matthew 22:19, Jesus tells them to show Him the tax money and they brought Him a denarius.

It’s funny how we try to trap God into one of our schemes and it backfires on us. We are quite silly. I can’t help but remember 1 Corinthians 1:25 which states, “the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” How true is that? We try to trap God but He already tells us He knows our hearts. Jesus asks them to bring Him the tax money. It sounds like Jesus is about to get involved in something we are very sensitive about. We hate to pay taxes. The old saying goes, “two things promised in life: taxes and death.” The people are trying to trap Jesus to either speak against the government or anger the people. Either way, He is in a position of defeat. Isn’t that how the world is today? They ask the children of God how they feel about various controversial topics just so they can call them narrow-minded or bigoted. We can all learn a lot from the reaction of Jesus in this situation. Let us stand strong and look to our glorious Lord and Savior always asking Him for that eternal heavenly knowledge, wisdom, and understand that can only come from God our Father.
