In Matthew 2:6, the chief priests and scribes quoted this verse to Herod from Micah 5:2, “And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the leaders of Judah; for out of you shall come forth a Ruler who will shepherd My people Israel.”

With the amount of prophecy provided in Scripture, we should not be surprised of God’s actions. When we hear stories of believers who society has presumed as worthless, useless, outcasts, or rejects and God gracefully and graciously takes them in to do a mighty work which brings glory to Himself, why are we surprised? Is God not capable of bringing glory to Himself? It seems the city of Bethlehem may have been regarded as a lowly city in the land of Judah among the other cities. In this prophecy, the glory of God is revealed to us again. We are always looking to point to God in the grand scheme of things. We try to look to government officials, mega-church pastors, athletes, and musicians as a source of influence. When these people do not give glory to God, we get upset. No way! Why are we getting upset? Over and over again, we see God use the common man to stir the hearts of His people to move in His direction. God places Himself among the least and the weakest and tells us He will be ALL that we need Him to be. Sooner or later, we realize we need God to be EVERYTHING for and to us. Without hesitation or reservation, He does moves in and becomes our everything. Praise the Lord for that! While we may be the least, most likely to be rejected by the world, we are precious enough to be chosen by the true and living God, the only God, the God who calls Himself, our Father!
