In Matthew 26:29, Jesus continues to say, “But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

Jesus is saving His cup to drink with us at His table when we are reunited with Him in His Father’s kingdom. Jesus had no need to drink of this particular cup which represented the forgiveness of sins. This cup was to symbolize what would be taking place within the next day. He was on His way to the cross. However, being that we are the bride of Christ, it seems He is saving His cup to make a toast when we are reunited with Him during the wedding feast. Jesus gives us assurance over and over that we will be united with Him forever. No one else can give us that type of assurance of our salvation. For some people it is at most a guessing game or a score card system whether they have eternal life or not; for some it is even worse, they think after this life, there is nothing else. There is no hope. That’s not the case with Jesus. Notice Jesus does not say “if” He drinks with us in His Father’s kingdom but instead “when.” It means it is just a matter of time before this happens. While there are some religions or faiths that either don’t believe in heaven or can’t guarantee heaven, I thank God daily through Jesus Christ it is signed, sealed, and delivered that we will stand before our Creator, our Lord, and our Savior face to face.
